Naperville, the fourth largest city in Illinois, is the oldest city in Dupage County, and one of the fastest growing cities in the United States. Founded in 1831 by Captain Joseph Naper, it's located about 30 miles west of Chicago on Interstate I-88. There is excellent commuter train service to Chicago and the area's roads, tollways, and expressways make this a very convenient town travel to and from.
Mostly farmland until the last fifty years, Naperville is truly the center of the western Chicago suburban high tech corridor. A diverse group of high technology, research and commercial businesses are helping to fuel Naperville's growth and expansion. It is the home to many entrepreneurs, business executives, engineers, scientists and other professionals.
Naperville is much more a small town than a city. The Naperville Historic District was created in 1977, preserving the historic charm of the downtown area. This area includes the Train Station (Fifth Avenue Station) and the North Central College Campus. It is a lively area, attracting visitors with great restaurants and shops. The Riverwalk area is a unique park along the river. Festivals and concerts are held regularly. The Ribfest is held every July the 4th, and is know nationally for the terrific food, fireworks and music.
An often overlooked Naperville resource are the nearby colleges and universities. Benedictine, DePaul University, The College of Dupage, North Central College, Northern Illinois University and North Central. The Naperville public school system is rated with the best in the United States.
The Naperville Park District maintains an excellent park system and golfers enjoy the many area courses and country clubs, which include Michael Jordan's Golf Center and Country Lakes Golf Course.
